Jan was born and raised in
Norman, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Oklahoma and majored in
Business Administration. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the
Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma and the San Ramon Arts Foundation.
Jan moved to California in
1969 and worked for Trans International Airlines (Transamerica Airlines) in the
Accounting, Fleet Planning, and Data Processing Departments.
Jan has taken
art instruction from several local instructors, but most of her work has been
self-taught. She has painted with acrylics, oils, watercolors, and soft pastels
on canvas, paper, greeting cards, wood and rocks. The subjects have included
landscapes, still life, portraits of people and animals. Her other interests
include the welfare of animals. Jan has combined this interest to focus on the
love of animals, to paint pet portraits (and their people when requested) in
soft pastels. Jan uses soft pastels with velour paper, which gives a delicate
and lifelike look to her paintings. She takes pictures of dogs she encounters
on walks and uses these photographs as the basis for her work on a particular
breed. She also accepts commissions to paint individual pets.
Jan has lived in San Ramon for twenty-two years and has been married to her
husband, Gary, for thirty-six years.
Her business, Pet Art by
Jan Zeigler, was started in 2003. A newspaper article about her appeared in the
Tri-Valley Herald, April 11, 2007.
Her paintings
have been shown at the Alameda County Fair Fine Arts Exhibit for the past five
years. She received a Silver Award in 2007 and an Honorable Mention Rosette in
2003 and 2004. She also received a First Place Pastel Award in 2005 and 2006 at
the San Ramon Art Walk & Festival.
Jan’s work
has also been shown at Comerica Bank in San Ramon, Studio 7 in Pleasanton,
Danville Doggie Night, Three Dog Bakery, Just Dogs and the San Ramon Banner
Project.
She has donated her art for
fundraisers to Tri-Valley Animal Rescue, CASA, The Biletnikoff Foundation, and
the Cocker Spaniel Rescue of New England.
